Learnings...

Failure Resume
Life is Change … Change is Tough...
To always be pragmatic, practical and objective is tough
Many a time, life’s mountain peaks give way to deep valleys and abyss.
There seems no way out... Life seems like a failure...
The only mantras to guide one at this point: “This too shall pass” or “There’s light at the end of the Tunnel” or “Failure is the stepping stone to Success”
But sometimes that too does not seem enough.
However, if one is able to tide these difficult times, there is learning, there is joy... There’s the sense of having accomplished something worthwhile.
My life too has had it share of failures... some small, some huge, but all with a purpose. I have learnt from them all. They have helped me evolve as a better human being (or so I think J)

The one failure that stands out from all the rest is where I gave up on myself. I was going through a bad patch in my life and it continued for years on end. All I wanted was acceptance, love and approval and those were the very things that weren’t available. Everything else in life from professional to personal took a back seat. Life became miserable and I even contemplated ending it all as I felt such a failure in relationships.

Amidst all this I lost my only brother, a person who had been my champion and constant companion. I was blind-sided. I questioned my beliefs in good and God. I couldn’t fathom why this was happening and what any of us had done to deserve such a situation. The situation also re-iterated the importance of life.

Seven years have passed to date of this incident and how my perspective has changed. I now walk my brother’s talk. He was a firm believer of living in the moment and enjoying life the way it was. He believed in being there for others whether they reciprocated it or not and most of all he believed in accepting yourself for who you are and embracing change.

I penned a story based on this event of my life and it turned out to be a cathartic experience. I share it here:

Life has not been a bed of roses, but with the right attitude it is a joy ride. It is that roller-coaster ride, where you scream at the speeds, twists and turns, but you are completely in the moment, enjoying the thrill. That’s life J

What I learnt from the Creativity Course

The course was a blessing in disguise. It provided me with a set of tools that were not only useful in the course, but in Life itself.

Personally, I am not visual person. Cognitively, I can say, I am visually challenged. But this course enabled me to create videos, presentations and artefacts that were visually appealing to others.

The brainstorming, mind mapping, observation, frames of reference, chindogu, storytelling, failure analysis and working in teams are all relevant and can be effective tools to deal with the various issues that occur at work or in personal lives.

As a researcher, I think this course enables me to use methods that are not usually adopted in our engineering and management frameworks to come up with potential, unique solutions.

I would like to thank Venture Labs for designing such an interesting and informative course. Last but not the least I would like to thank Tina Seelig and her support team for the amazing content and handling of the course.

I leave the course better equipped to face the Future. I suggest to all the people who read this to give it a try and attend this online course and take advantage of its unique approaches J

Kumudhini
